Painting - Cast out Sins into the Depths of the Sea

Objective:

In this lesson you will learn about the character of God as you experiment with different brush techniques, different paint applications, and ways to express your individual style.

Materials:

  • pencil
  • white & cerulean blue acrylic paint
  • watercolor paper or canvas board
  • brushes
  • pallet
  • paper towels
  • water
  • black Sharpie
Picture

Process:

  • Make sure you are in a calm environment
  • Think about the Bible verse Micah 7:19, You will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea.  Ask God to reveal any sinful areas of your life that need to be "cast into the depths of the sea."
  • With a pencil, lightly draw an horizon line on your watercolor paper/canvas board about 1/3 from the bottom.
  • Under the horizon line, list the sins that God revealed to you. Spend time in prayer asking for God's forgiveness.
  • From the horizon line to the bottom of the canvas paint short, horizontal strokes with the blue to create water.
  • On your pallet, mix a little blue with white to create the sky color. Paint horizontal brush strokes from the horizon line to the top of the canvas to create the sky.
  • Let the canvas dry.
  • Once dry, use white to create white caps on the water and clouds in the sky. You can also add a cross.
  • Let the canvas dry.
  • Use a black Sharpie to write the Bible verse on the canvas. You can also use a stencil.
How do you feel after creating your painting? Do you believe that your sins have been forgiven? Why or why not? Put your painting somewhere to remind you of God's grace and forgiveness.
