Gratitude Tree
The apostle Paul tells us, “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you” (1 Thessalonians 5:16-18). We are called to give thanks not just in the good circumstances, but in all circumstances. Practicing gratitude can be wonderful for our well being and help us focus on what is important. In this activity you will be creating a tree artwork showing all the things you are grateful for.
Materials:
- watercolor paper
- pencil & eraser
- black pen
- light blue paint
- black paint
- paint brush
- markers or watercolor paint
- hairdryer (optional)
Process:
- Use the black paint to create the silhouette of a tree that fills up the space on your paper. You may use a resource image of a tree from the internet.
- When you have finished, let it dry. (You may use a hairdryer to speed up the drying process.)
- Using the pen, write all the things you are grateful for amongst the branches of the tree.
- Use markers to add various tints and shades of green to the tree.
- Fill in the background with light blue paint.
- Reflect on your tree. What kinds of things are you grateful for? How does it make you feel?
