This week K-2 drew nativity scenes during art class. I love how children this age draw without hesitation. For the most part, they draw without any concern of what others think about their art. They just love to create and express their ideas. It makes me sad that somewhere along the way we lose the ability to enjoy the process of creating. I hope over the Christmas holiday you will take time to create. You will take out the crayons, colored pencils, watercolors, or what ever you may have and enjoy the process. Create without any thoughts of whether it looks perfect or without any regard of what others may think. If you aren't sure where to start, read Luke 2:1-16, and draw the nativity scene.

Piper is a fifth grader at FBCS. In addition to being an outstanding artist and participating in art club, she swims, plays the piano, and loves playing with her cousins.
What do you love about the arts?

Creativity and imagination is important to me because it helps me get away from my troubles.

5th & 6th grade art club

FBCS 5th & 6th grade Art Club Christmas Party was a blast! We decorated cookies, ate ice cream, and had a White Elephant Gift Exchange. I love these students!

Wednesday night we shared our final presentations for the Research Methods class. Dr. Tillander did a great job encouraging us, supporting us, and guiding us through a jam packed course. I not only learned what it takes to carry out research, but I also learned a lot about myself and my current philosophy of art education..The reason for this--my work during this class partially included examining my own methods of teaching.

Examining my own methods isn't something that occurred only during this class. It has been a slow process that has been taking place through all the UF classes. A few key components include: an article by Efland (1976) in one class, another by Hathaway (2013) in a different class, and an understanding of the backward design curriculum process.. In addition, during the History of Art Education course I was introduced to Victor D'Amico, a pioneer in our profession, I was intrigued by his work and began researching and investigating his methods and techniques and wanted to integrate some of his ideas in my classroom.. Consequently, the proposal for my capstone project is to examine how I can implement some of D'Amico's philosophies of art education into my classroom. Dr. Roland has agreed to be my capstone chair and I look forward to this next step in my UF journey.

Wow! What a week!

This has been a
GREAT WEEK
for FBCS art students. We started off with preparation for the Middle School Art Gala and a room that looked like this...

5th & 6th grade art club installed a display of fabulous Christmas artwork and two students have buyers for their work. Congratulations Vivian and Piper!
