One of the assignments for the UF Art Education in Alternative Sites course requires the students to create a program that offers art education outside of the formal school setting.. As a cancer patient in 2010, I began researching ways to deal with the stress that comes with battling disease. It was during this time I was introduced to visual journaling - a way to document my journey through art. It helped me look beyond my circumstances and provided a way to share my experience while receiving the therapeutic benefits of the process. I have not found anything in Martin County that offers art for children struggling with disease.. So for my project I would like to develop an art program to fill this need. In the coming weeks I will be researching, visiting places like Molly's House, interviewing friends in the medical field, and putting together a proposal for my "Art Dream".
