It is important to use lost (fuzzy) and found (sharp) edges in a painting. Usually found edges are in the foreground and near the point of interest. Lost edges are usually found in the background. Philbert brushes are good to use when creating lost edges.
Building a painting means to add colors in layers. Paint one color, allow it to dry. Add a layer of another color and let it dry. Then another, and another as needed. This creates depth and texture.
Below are notes, guidelines and a painting we worked on during class. The idea was to practice brush strokes, lost and found edges, as we "built" a painting by using layers.
Build a painting using techniques we have studied so far. It can be a landscape or a still life.
